RAC Associate Badges 1946-53 Type 1 Car badge

RAC Associate Badge 1946-53 Type 1 Early version. Post War restrictions on the use of enamels brought about the introduction in 1946 of the “lozenge” shaped badge, following the design in the centre of the previous Associate type (1936 - 45). Type 1 had no blue backing and had their “V” number stamped on the reverse. Manufactured in brass and chromed. The newly introduced "George’s Crown" was in brass and riveted on. Size: 107 mm (4.2”) x 85 mm (3.3”) 4 mm (1/16”) thick. # V 5169 See next image for reverse. Note the modified Crown on top, often mistakenly referred to in badge circles as a "Georgian Crown. No such thing as a Georgian Crown exists, just a modern version of the Imperial Crown, so known because King Edward VII was the Emperor of India when he introduced it in 1901
