Berkshire. Manufactured in Resin and having a Stainless backing plate, by Renamel of London from the early 60’s until 1974 when the County Boundaries of England and Wales were changed. The Arms show two Royal Lions seen in the Passant pose, indicating that Berkshire is a Royal County, this privilege is unique among shire counties. They come from the arms of the Norman kings. Henry I founded Reading Abbey. The embattled border to the shield represents the castles of the County, of which Windsor is the best known survivor. The Crest on top of the Shield shows a Stag on a coloured wreath, grazing in front of an Oak tree, Said to represent the Stags and Oaks of Windsor Forest, There is a tradition that a banner with this symbol, or one similar, was carried by the men of Berkshire at the Battle of Agincourt
